Standard tipping in the US is 15-20% for good service. 15% for adequate service, 18-20% for good service, and 20%+ for exceptional service.

Traditionally, tips are calculated on the pre-tax subtotal. However, tipping on the total (including tax) is becoming more common and is perfectly acceptable.

Calculate the total bill plus tip, then divide by the number of people. Our calculator does this automatically when you enter the number of people to split between.
